Working with Deep is super cool, but can also be very, very slow. Luckily, with the inestimable help of Python,\u00a0 there are different strategies we can use to leverage the power of Deep Comping without compromising our script responsiveness and our own productivity<\/strong>. <\/iframe><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-5\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\"><\/div><\/div>\n<h6><strong>installation guide<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>So first things first, let\u00b4s place the Python script where it can be reached so that we can actually use the tools.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Distribute the code<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Download the script from the link below and save it as a Python file called <strong> <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\"b_deeptoolset.py<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\" data-darkreader-inline-color=\"\">\"<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0where Nuke can find it. Please note that I have included a few (but not all) unmodified functions from this module inside my <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\"b_deeptoolset.py<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\" data-darkreader-inline-color=\"\">\"<\/span><\/strong> so that you <strong>can still use the ''Autocomp'' feature<\/strong> even if you don\u00b4t have installed <strong>\"dDot\".\u00a0 <\/strong>Needless to say<strong>, <\/strong>All <strong>dDot's<\/strong> related functionality credit goes to its creator <strong>Daniel Bartha.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Edit the menu.py file<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now we have the<strong> <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">\"b_deeptoolset.py<\/span><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\" data-darkreader-inline-color=\"\">\" <\/span><\/strong>Python module where Nuke can find it, we\u00b4re gonna import it by adding the following line to our menu.py :<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdr-snippet-container\" data-language=\"python\" data-show-lines=\"true\" data-height=\"0\"><pre class=\"sdr-snippet-box\">import b_deeptooset\r\n\r\n\r\n<\/pre><\/div>\n<p>Save the menu.py and restart Nuke.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 - Try it<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>You'll notice that there are a couple of new menus on your menu bar<\/strong>, namely: <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\"b_deeptoolset\"<\/strong><\/span><\/span>\u00a0and <strong>\"dDot\"<\/strong>. If this is the case, congratulations, we are ready to start using the Toolkit. Also, it's gonna look better with a dot creating a right angle between the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>DeepRecolor<\/strong> <\/span>and the regular 2d element. To drop the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>dDots<\/strong><\/span>, either use the hotkey \"Shift+.\" or go to the <strong>\"dDot\"<\/strong> menu and run the <strong>\"dDotParent\"<\/strong> tool. A little Nuke Panel will pop up for you to input the name. Once done that, just click OK and a new <strong><span style=\"color: #333399;\">dDot<\/span> <\/strong>node will be created.<\/li>\n<li><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 <strong>4.1<\/strong> - <strong>For the regular 2d input name, please use any alphanumeric string<\/strong>. It may be as long as you need and could use camel case in case you want to include several words. Please avoid empty spaces or underscores. And by the way, the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>dDots<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0are just regular <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Dot<\/strong> <\/span>Nodes <strong>with an additional hidden Knob that allows for smart linking and that type of stuff<\/strong>. They won't cause any trouble otherwise!<\/li>\n<li><div class=\"su-spacer\" style=\"height:20px\"><\/div><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>5<\/strong> - Voila, select all your <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>DeepRecolor<\/strong> <\/span>(and only DeepRecolor ) nodes and click on the <strong>\"create_holdouts\"<\/strong> button. It is a very good idea to prerender your holdouts, import and connect them to the <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong>Switch<\/strong><\/span> node\u00b4s 1 input and switch to 1. Render those out and bring them back in the comp. In less than a second, you should see a setup by the end of which you'll have an adequately processed depth channel ready to be pre-comped and used. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>IMPORTANT NOTE<\/strong><\/span>:\u00a0 If you wanted to create both the <strong>Holdouts and the Deep2Depth<\/strong> setups, you need to create <strong>FIRST<\/strong> the <strong>Deep2Depth<\/strong> and then the <strong>Holdouts<\/strong>, otherwise the tool will make a mess and will fail.
