It´s always nice to comp CG stadiums, you know, those nice lens-flares, foto-flashes, crowd simulations and all the fuss. The idea for this Aldi spot was to present two regular Aldi shop assistant getting magically in the middle of a football match, on a very very rainy day. The plates were shot with practical rain on set so as to restore as much as possible from it in comp. Obviously, this made the whole keying process way more challenging, although this helped us to have the nice rain to character interactions we would not have had with stock footage. On top of that, we added some more rain layers in different depths, taking close look at real-world examples. Overall, a very intense compositing work that took a nice deal of artistry to make it look right.

During my days working at Entropy studio, among feature films and tv-series I did a great deal of commercials.
For each christmas in Spain, the lotery advertisment happens to be a much expected event, as it´s normally the most important piece in terms of production scale. This one is pretty much a commercial superproduction in which there is no shot without CGI. VFX wise, the majority of the work was completed by the outstanding VFX studio Miopia along with the work done by Entropy studio for the sea shots. I personally contributed to the full CGI one that shows the fishing boat kind of struggling against the waves by adding the finals touches and tweakings as well as the lens flares and lens simulation effects. As an anecdote, if you pay close atention to what the pen is writing in the dream´s book, you´ll se my full name there ;).Cheers!

When it comes to commercials, cars are generally one of the top stuff you want to work with. Especially when we are talking about hig-end ones like this Audi A8 Spot we completed at Entropy studio for Dubai´s market. VFX wise, the spot consisted essentially in a great deal of greenscreen shots along with FX simulation for the dust-storm we needed to recreate. Beautifuly shooted, I believe it stands as a nice commercial piece.

Texture, material, color, pattern, shape. Indeed, when it comes to judging the latest sneaker trend, ants have the best perspective from where to judge and elaborate. I´m kidding, they don´t know a goddam thing, but it does sound funny, does not it? This idea, as you may have figured out, is the leitmotif for this fake commercial campaign I created for Nike as if Nike were actually my client. More specifically, for the stunning Nike Air Huarache ®. That´s pretty much all folks, I hope ants like it!

ABOUT “ANTS KNOW BEST”

Technically speaking, for the accomplishment of these couple of shots we´ve deployed some cutting edge techniques as to how we created the models of the New Balance 970 ® & Nike Air Huarache ®, as well as the tree stump you can see in the background of the 1st shot. Our modeling team first worked out a set of raw photography that was then used for both building up and texture the models through photogrammetry. Specifically, around 150 photos were used for each model,  achieving a level of detail that would have taken quite long modeling, sculpting & texturing hours to accomplish. The rest of the work was done both in Maya and Houdini, regarding animation, crowd simulation, dynamics and shading. Rendering was done in Arnold and compositing within NukeX.
